The E5001-535 is the 535 nm band-pass photo filter for the Accuris SmartDoc 2.0 Imaging Enclosure (E5001-SD) — used when imaging green fluorescent DNA stains on a UV transilluminator (vs the SmartDoc's standard configuration with blue-light transilluminator + orange filter). The filter is glass-construction with a band-pass spectral profile centered at 535 nm that:

  1. Blocks UV excitation light — so UV bulbs do not show in the captured image (and so UV does not reach the smartphone camera)
  2. Eliminates background wavelengths from the excitation source — improving the signal-to-background ratio in the captured gel image
  3. Transmits green fluorescence emission — the 535 nm pass-band matches the emission peak of green fluorescent DNA stains (SmartGlow, SYBR Green, Gel Green, GelStar, GelGreen, GreenGlo)

SmartDoc Filter Selection Decision Matrix

The SmartDoc 2.0 enclosure ships with the E5001-ORANGE filter included for the standard blue-light transilluminator + green stain workflow. Two separately-ordered band-pass filters support UV-transilluminator workflows depending on stain chemistry:

Why a Band-Pass Filter for UV + Green Stain Imaging

When the SmartDoc 2.0 is paired with a UV transilluminator instead of the SmartBlue, the standard orange filter (E5001-ORANGE, designed for blue excitation) is not optimal for two reasons:

  1. UV excitation passes through orange-tint filters — the 302 nm UV light reaches the smartphone camera, potentially damaging the camera sensor over extended exposure and contaminating the captured image with UV-bulb background
  2. Green-stain emission peaks at 535 nm — a narrow-band filter centered at 535 nm captures the emission with optimal signal-to-background ratio, while the broader orange filter passes more background wavelengths

The E5001-535 band-pass filter addresses both:

  • Blocks UV so the smartphone camera is protected and the captured image is UV-bulb-free
  • Pass band centered at green emission peak for optimal stain-signal capture

Compatible Stains

Per the SmartDoc 2.0 manual, the E5001-535 is appropriate for green fluorescent stains on UV transilluminator workflows including SmartGlow PS (Pre-Stain), SmartGlow LD (Loading Dye), SYBR Green I and II, SYBR Safe, SYBR Gold, Gel Star, Gel Green, and GreenGlo.

Application Profile

Labs transitioning from EtBr to green stains while keeping UV transilluminator inventory — labs that have moved their stain chemistry from EtBr to SmartGlow / SYBR Green but still use their existing UV transilluminator (vs investing in a SmartBlue) need the E5001-535 to image the new stains correctly.

Multi-stain imaging facilities — facilities running mixed EtBr + green-stain workflows on the same UV transilluminator alternate between E5001-590 (EtBr) and E5001-535 (green-stain) per workflow run.

Sequencing core facilities — facilities running both stain chemistries depending on sample-preparation needs benefit from both band-pass filters in the SmartDoc accessory inventory.

Educational laboratory imaging — teaching labs running mixed stain chemistries on shared UV transilluminator equipment benefit from the green-stain filter for SmartGlow / SYBR Green class exercises.

Ordering & Configuration

Pair with SmartDoc 2.0 + UV transilluminator inventory. The filter is workflow-required for the specific SmartDoc + UV + green-stain combination, not workflow-mandatory for all SmartDoc workflows. Confirm stain chemistry and transilluminator type at order.

Confirm at quote: SmartDoc 2.0 chassis (E5001-SD / E5001-SDB) in inventory, UV transilluminator inventory, gel-stain chemistry, sister-filter inventory (E5001-590 for EtBr workflows), and lead time.

Warranty: Per Accuris standard accessory terms — confirm at quote.
