The Z600-500-NP is the non-perforated 500 mL centrifugal basket for the Hermle SIEVA-3 filtration centrifuge series (Z600-S3, Z600-S3-TC). It's the paired alternative to the perforated Z600-500-P basket — same diameter, same chassis fit, same maximum operating speed, but with a solid (non-perforated) wall. Where the perforated basket drives the liquid phase through the filter and the basket wall during centrifugation, the non-perforated basket retains both phases within the basket while the centrifugal force still produces a layered separation against the basket wall. This is the spec for collected-volume workflows where the operator wants to recover both the supernatant and the cake separately, or where the workflow requires the liquid phase to be characterized after centrifugation rather than discarded as filtrate.

Compatibility & Configuration
Chassis compatibility — SIEVA-3 family only. Same fit as the Z600-500-P. Not interchangeable with Z327, Z446, Z366, Z216, or other Hermle universal/microcentrifuge rotors.
Optional filter overlay. Unlike the perforated basket, the Z600-500-NP doesn't *require* a filter — the workflow can use the basket alone for solid-liquid layering against the basket wall, or the basket with a filter overlay placed loosely on the inside surface to retain a defined particle-size class while still collecting the liquid phase as recoverable volume.
Paired ordering with Z600-500-P: many workflows benefit from having both basket types available — the perforated for filtration-mode separation (driving liquid through the filter) and the non-perforated for collected-volume layering (retaining both phases). Method-development work especially benefits from the option to switch between modes during workflow validation.
When to Use Non-Perforated vs Perforated
Use Z600-500-NP when:
- The liquid phase is the product (or a co-product) and must be recovered as volume rather than discarded as filtrate
- The workflow requires both phases to be characterized after separation (analytical workflows, method development)
- The solid phase is fine enough that even small-pore filters would clog rapidly, but density-based layering against the basket wall produces sufficient separation
- Containment of all phases inside the basket is important (aerosol-producing or volatile separations)
Use Z600-500-P when:
- The solid phase is the product (crystallizate isolation, API recovery, slurry dewatering)
- The liquid phase is mother liquor that's discarded as filtrate
- Throughput matters and continuous filtration through the basket wall keeps the cake from becoming saturated
- Filter pore-size control is the primary separation parameter
Workflow Notes
Loading and balance. Like the perforated basket, the Z600-500-NP must be loaded symmetrically. SIEVA-3's active imbalance shut-off catches asymmetric loads, but operators should still pre-balance the basket against a counterweight or by even distribution of sample.
Cleaning. Non-perforated baskets clean more easily than perforated ones — no filter to remove, no perforations to clear of cake residue. For multi-product workflows running both basket types, the non-perforated basket typically has shorter changeover time.
Material compatibility. Stainless-steel basket is chemically resistant to standard pharmaceutical and biotechnology solvents. For aggressive-solvent workflows that exceed standard stainless-steel resistance, the Z600-S3-PC perforated basket with SafeCoat 778 coating is available — there is no current SafeCoat-coated non-perforated equivalent in this catalog, so contact the distributor if aggressive-solvent compatibility is required for non-perforated mode.
Ordering & Configuration
Z600-500-NP ships as the basket only. Chassis (Z600-S3 family) and any optional filter material are separate SKUs.
Use the quote request to confirm: SIEVA-3 chassis variant the basket pairs with, whether the workflow uses both perforated and non-perforated baskets (typical pattern for method-development work), and lead time for ancillary accessories.
Warranty: 5-Year Hermle warranty (3 years full + 2 years drivetrain).
Selection guidance: if you're deciding between Z600-500-P and Z600-500-NP for a single basket purchase, the perforated basket (Z600-500-P) is the more general-purpose choice — it can be used with or without filter material and supports the broadest workflow range. The non-perforated basket earns its slot in the rotor catalog when the workflow specifically needs to retain both phases within the basket geometry. Many SIEVA-3 installs end up with both baskets in inventory.
