The Z600-S3-F50u is the 50 micron pore-size filter material for the Hermle SIEVA-3 filtration centrifuge family — PP DWL (polypropylene double-woven) construction, supplied as a pack of 10 filters. The 50 µm pore is the coarsest spec in the SIEVA-3 filter catalog (which spans 7 µ / 20 µ / 30 µ / 50 µ); it's the fastest-filtering pore in the family, appropriate for workflows where the product-particle size is large (typically >100 µm) and per-cycle throughput matters more than fine-particle retention. Brewing yeast biomass (yeast cells are 5–10 µm but flocculate to >100 µm clumps), large-crystal pharmaceutical workflows, and food-science biomass dewatering are typical applications.

Compatibility & Pore-Size Selection

SIEVA-3 family only. Pairs with the perforated centrifugal basket (Z600-500-P or Z600-S3-PC) inside a SIEVA-3 chassis.

Pore-size family positioning — this is the coarsest pore:

PoreSKUApplication class
7 µmZ600-S3-F7uFinest — fine pharmaceutical crystallizates
20 µmZ600-S3-F20uMid-fine — intermediate crystallizates
30 µmZ600-S3-F30uMid-coarse — larger crystallizates, biomass
50 µmZ600-S3-F50u (this product)Coarsest — large-particle slurries, brewing, food-science

Filtration-time vs retention trade-off. The 50 µm pore filters fastest in the family — typically 2–5× faster than 20 µm depending on cake characteristics. Trade-off: only particles ≥50 µm are retained reliably; smaller particles pass through into the filtrate. For workflows with large product particles, this is acceptable and the speed advantage matters.

Application Profile

Brewing yeast biomass recovery. Yeast cells are 5–10 µm individually, but flocculated yeast forms aggregates of 100+ µm — the 50 µm pore retains the flocculated biomass while filtering quickly enough to support brewing-cycle throughput. Standard pore for yeast-recovery workflows in pilot-brewing and craft-brewing applications.

Food-science biomass dewatering. Fermentation biomass (lactobacillus, bifidobacterium for probiotic production), enzyme-production biomass, and plant-cell-culture biomass typically form aggregates well above 50 µm — the coarse pore handles them at production-relevant throughput.

Large-crystal pharmaceutical workflows. When the synthesis or formulation produces large crystals (>100 µm), the 50 µm pore retains them with margin and filters fast.

Slurry pre-clarification. When the SIEVA-3 is used as a pre-clarification step before downstream finer filtration (a coarse separation that removes the bulk solid phase before a polishing step), the 50 µm pore is the coarse-cut spec.

Industrial slurry dewatering of catalyst residues, polymer-bead suspensions, and similar large-particle industrial workflows.

High-throughput recyclate processing in environmental and recycling workflows where the bulk solid phase needs to be separated from the carrier liquid quickly.

Inventory & Workflow Notes

Single-use vs reuse. Standard SIEVA-3 filter considerations apply — single-use for pharmaceutical-grade workflows; cleaning-and-reuse possible for non-cGMP food-science, brewing, and industrial applications.

Pack consumption rate. At one filter per cycle, a pack of 10 = ~10 cycles. Brewing and food-science workflows may run 10–30+ cycles per production day; stock multiple packs accordingly.

Combination workflows. Some labs use both 50 µm (coarse pre-clarification) and 7 µm (polishing) in sequential SIEVA-3 cycles — the coarse pore removes the bulk biomass quickly, then the fine pore polishes the filtrate. This sequential approach uses different filter pore packs in cycle.

Ordering & Configuration

Z600-S3-F50u ships as a pack of 10 filters. Filter material only — basket and SIEVA-3 chassis sold separately.

Confirm at quote: pack quantity per workflow throughput, pore-size validation packs if commissioning a new install, and lead time for restocking. Brewing and food-science applications often warrant larger initial filter inventory than pharmaceutical workflows due to higher cycles-per-day rates.

Warranty: Filter material is a consumable; quality is guaranteed against manufacturing defect at time of delivery.

When to choose 50 µm vs finer pores: if your workflow's product particle size is consistently above 100 µm (flocculated yeast, large pharmaceutical crystals, mineral aggregates), the 50 µm pore (this SKU) maximizes per-cycle throughput. For mid-particle products (30–100 µm), step down to Z600-S3-F30u. For fine particles (<30 µm), Z600-S3-F20u or Z600-S3-F7u. The coarse pore is the throughput-optimized pick when fine retention isn't workflow-critical.
