The Z207-24SC is the 24-position spin column rotor for the Hermle Z207-M compact microcentrifuge — engineered for silica- and membrane-based spin column extraction kits (Qiagen, Zymo Research, Promega, Bio-Rad, NEB and equivalent kit chemistries). Spin columns combine a column body (filter membrane on a frit) with a 1.5 / 2.0 mL collection tube, and the column-plus-tube assembly is taller than a standard microtube alone — the SC rotor geometry accommodates this taller stack with the correct hub depth and spindle clearance. Z207-M only — engineered for the Z207-M chassis (not interchangeable with Z207-A or other Hermle families).

Chassis compatibility — Z207-M only. The rotor body is engineered for the Z207-M compact-microcentrifuge spindle. Confirm chassis match at order.
Spin column kit compatibility — broad. Standard silica and membrane spin columns from major commercial extraction kits seat into the SC rotor positions:
The rotor geometry accepts standard column body dimensions (typical column OD ~9–11 mm; standard collection tube format 1.5 / 2.0 mL). Confirm at order if the workflow uses non-standard column dimensions (some specialty kits use proprietary geometries).
Why "SC" geometry matters. Standard microtube rotors (Z207-2420H, Z216-2420, etc.) are dimensioned for the microtube alone. Spin column assemblies stack the column body on top of the collection tube, increasing total height — the SC rotor's hub depth and spindle clearance accommodate this stack while maintaining the 45° angle and balanced rotation. Running spin columns in a non-SC microtube rotor is a fit problem (column may not seat fully) and a balance problem (irregular column-body weight distribution).
Routine DNA/RNA extraction at clinical-research and core-facility scale — the dominant use case. Most commercial extraction kits center on the silica spin-column workflow; the Z207-M + Z207-24SC combination delivers clean prep for downstream PCR, qPCR, sequencing, and microarray assays.
24-sample batches per cycle — matches the typical 96-well plate quadrant batch size (24 = 1/4 of a 96-well plate) common in extraction prep workflows.
Pre-PCR and pre-qPCR sample prep — extract DNA/RNA into the SC rotor, then transfer eluate to PCR plate or strip for amplification.
Gel and PCR cleanup — post-amplification or post-restriction-digest cleanup using gel-extraction or PCR-cleanup column kits at the bench-prep scale.
Plasmid mini-prep — bacterial-culture-derived plasmid prep for cloning workflows; the SC rotor handles the typical 24-clone screening batch in a single cycle.
Protein affinity-prep at micro scale — His-tag, FLAG-tag, GST-tag affinity column kits at the analytical / pilot-prep scale where bench-format spin columns deliver sufficient yield.
24-position symmetric loading. Pair opposites (positions 1+13, 2+14, etc.) by mass. Spin column assemblies have variable mass during the workflow — column with binding buffer is heavier than column with eluate — so re-balance pairs at each spin step in a multi-step extraction protocol.
Column orientation. Spin columns must be oriented per the kit manufacturer's instructions — typically flow-through direction aligned with the rotor's outward radial axis. Most modern kits pre-orient the column body, but verify on first use of any new kit chemistry.
Selectable accel/decel. Z207-M chassis profiles apply; the unbraked extended-decel profile preserves loose silica-bound material during the elution step.
Z207-24SC ships as the rotor body alone. Spin column kits, reagents, and adapters for downstream microtube use (C1008-A5-6, C1008-A2-6) are sold separately or supplied per the user's chosen kit.
Confirm at quote: chassis pairing (Z207-M), kit chemistry intended (most major kits compatible — confirm if using non-standard column geometry), and lead time.
Warranty: 5-Year Hermle warranty (3 years full + 2 years drivetrain) on the rotor body.
Z207-M extraction-and-amplification rotor stack:
- Z207-24SC (this product) — spin column extraction kit workflows (24 columns/cycle)
- Z207-2420H — hermetically sealed microtube rotor for biosafety microtube workflows
- Z207-3202 — 4 × 8 PCR-strip rotor for downstream PCR after extraction
A common Z207-M setup pairs the 24SC with the 3202 — extract DNA/RNA into the SC rotor, then run PCR setup or spin-down of PCR strips on the 3202 in the same chassis.
