The Haier DW-86L578J is an ENERGY STAR-qualified, -86°C upright ultra-low freezer that delivers 578 L (20.4 cu ft) of storage, roughly 400 standard 2-inch cryoboxes, while running on an ordinary 115V/60Hz circuit. That combination is unusual in a freezer this size and is the reason to specify it: full-size -80°C capacity without a 208V receptacle, plus the lower running cost of an ENERGY STAR listing. It is a workhorse for shared core facilities and lab groups consolidating cold-chain inventory.

Application Profile
The DW-86L578J is engineered around accessibility and efficiency. A 115V/60Hz supply requirement means it plugs into standard lab power (no dedicated 208V circuit, no electrician's visit) which dramatically simplifies siting compared with most full-size -86°C freezers. At a rated 900 W maximum and an ENERGY STAR listing, it also keeps operating cost and heat rejection down, a meaningful factor when several freezers share a room.
Storage is organized into four insulated inner doors and three adjustable stainless-steel shelves, so a technician opening one quadrant exposes only a quarter of the 578 L load, good practice for preserving the -40°C to -86°C stability of cell lines, plasma and nucleic-acid libraries. The 400 2-inch-box capacity suits a busy shared facility, and optional LN₂ or CO₂ backup adds hold-over protection during outages. Two rear 25 mm portholes accept independent monitoring probes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the DW-86L578J run on a standard 115V outlet? Yes. It is specified at 115V/60Hz, so it can be sited on standard lab power without a dedicated 208V receptacle, unusual for a full-size -86°C freezer.
How many boxes does it hold? 578 L (20.4 cu ft), about 400 standard 2-inch cryoboxes, across four inner doors and three adjustable stainless-steel shelves.
Is it ENERGY STAR rated? Yes. The DW-86L578J column lists UL and ENERGY STAR certification, and it draws a maximum of 900 W.
What temperature range does it hold? -40°C to -86°C, with a cooling performance of -86°C using hydrocarbon cascade refrigeration.
Can I add backup cooling? Optional LN₂ and CO₂ backup systems are available to maintain temperature during a power or compressor failure.
