The E3000 is the Accuris UV Transilluminator — a benchtop UV light source for excitation of fluorescent dyes in stained electrophoresis gels (ethidium bromide, GelRed, GelGreen, SYBR Safe, and similar dsDNA-binding fluorescent stains). The midrange 302 nm UV wavelength is the standard wavelength for ethidium bromide excitation and most dsDNA-binding fluorescent gel stains. Note: other manufacturers may refer to the same wavelength range as 300 nm or 312 nm — the spectral range is the same. The E3000 ships with a UV-protective cover, cooling fan, and high/low intensity switch, sized for routine gel-electrophoresis observation, analysis, and photo imaging.

Voltage options: This unit can be ordered with European voltage requirements (230V/50Hz). Contact us to order.

What This Instrument Does

The E3000 is a dedicated UV transilluminator — distinct from gel-doc imaging systems by its purpose-built role as a UV light source for gel observation. The instrument's glass viewing surface accepts stained electrophoresis gels positioned face-up; UV light from below excites the dsDNA-bound fluorescent dye, producing visible fluorescence that the operator observes through the UV-protective cover or photographs with an external camera (gel-doc imaging system or similar).

Workflow position: The transilluminator is the light source in the gel-imaging workflow. For documented imaging (saved photos, software-based image analysis), pair with a separate camera, gel-doc imaging system, or smartphone with UV-blocking lens cover. For routine observation (band identification, excision marking for cloning workflows), the E3000 alone is sufficient.

UV Safety

UV transilluminators are powerful sources of UV radiation that is hazardous to skin and eyes. Per the E3000 brochure safety guidance:

  • Always position the UV-protective cover to prevent UV exposure to the user during operation
  • Wear protective UV-blocking glasses even with the protective cover installed
  • Wear protective clothing (lab coat, full-coverage gloves) to prevent UV exposure to skin
  • Limit exposure duration — minimize time-on for the UV source even with safety equipment in use

The protective cover effectively blocks UV radiation when correctly positioned, but redundant safety (cover + glasses + clothing) is the recommended workflow.

Compatibility & Configuration

Standard gel-electrophoresis workflows — agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis with dsDNA-binding fluorescent stain (ethidium bromide, GelRed, GelGreen, SYBR Safe).

Routine band visualization for cloning workflows — gel observation for band identification, excision marking before downstream gel-extraction, and cloning workflow band confirmation.

PCR product confirmation — visual confirmation of PCR amplification before downstream cleanup or sequencing.

Routine genotyping workflows — restriction-enzyme digest visualization, PCR-based genotyping band patterns.

Educational laboratory teaching — undergraduate molecular biology and biochemistry teaching where gel-electrophoresis is part of the curriculum.

Workflow consolidation with gel-doc imaging — pair the E3000 with an external gel-doc camera for documented imaging workflows where saved photos and software image analysis matter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What UV wavelength does the E3000 emit? 302 nm — a midrange UV wavelength standard for ethidium bromide and most dsDNA-binding fluorescent gel stains.

Which stains is the E3000 compatible with? Ethidium bromide, GelRed, GelGreen, SYBR Safe, and other dsDNA-binding fluorescent gel stains excited in the 300–312 nm range.

What features does the E3000 include? A UV-protective cover, a cooling fan for UV-bulb thermal management, and a high/low intensity switch.

What UV safety precautions are required? Always position the UV-protective cover, wear UV-blocking glasses even with the cover installed, wear protective clothing, and limit exposure duration.

Ordering & Configuration

Power configuration. 115 V (this SKU) for North American outlets; a 230 V variant is available by special order for UK / Europe / Australia outlets.
