In the traditional cell-culture imaging workflow, cells live in the incubator, then the operator removes the plate, transports it to a microscope, images, and returns the plate to the incubator. Each cycle causes brief temperature loss during transport, CO2 atmosphere disruption during plate handling, and cell stress from thermal and atmospheric transitions, and true time-lapse imaging is impossible without specialized stage-top incubators on the microscope.
The IncuView integrated microscope approach mounts the microscope on a shelf inside the CO2 incubator chamber, so cells are imaged without leaving the controlled environment. This enables time-lapse and longitudinal imaging with no sample disturbance and no condensation interference, since samples stay in the chamber atmosphere with no chamber-to-room temperature gradient.
