Why a Hydrophobic Filter: Pump Protection
The Aspire's vacuum pump is damaged by direct liquid contact. The hydrophobic filter creates a liquid barrier between the collection bottle and the pump: aspirated liquid flows from the sample through the tubing into the collection bottle, while vacuum air flow continues from the bottle through the hydrophobic filter to the pump, and the filter blocks liquid passage even if the bottle overflows or splash-back occurs. If the filter is missing or damaged, liquid can reach the pump (causing pump damage, chassis service, and costly downtime), and bacterial or cell-suspension contamination of the pump internals can create cross-workflow contamination risk.
Filter replacement is workflow-mandatory for safe Aspire operation. The chassis ships with one filter installed; the V0020-F1 SKU is the replacement.
